Happy Holiplay

As a way to strengthen its presence online with consumers, Hostway ran a campaign at the end of 2004 in which they gave away $50,000 to 2 different charity organizations, NetDay and Junior Achievement. By participating in the site via sending an e-card or playing 1 of 3 games, users could vote on which charity should receive more money. Once the voting was in, Hostway then divvied up their total donation between the 2 groups. The overall spirit of the project lent a light-heartedness to the Hostway brand that had not been present in its previous communications. This helped them to connect with a whole new audience and set the tone for future projects that were more viral in nature. The Lick N' Bowl game especially was a huge viral success.
