For Reeling's 23rd year as a lesbian & gay international film festival, they wanted to change their image. To align with the festival's wide variety and range of “projected material”, all of the collateral was based around projected typography and bold color, making reference to queer culture, as well as nightlife and a sense of celebration. I didn't want to focus too heavily on any specific feature or type of person (gay, lesbian, black, white, etc.), so something more typographic seemed appropriate. The type was projected using several different slide projectors onto silk screens hanging from a lofted ceiling. The series of layers combined with the differing angles of the projections is what lends the strange illusion of depth and multiple iterations in varying scale for each of the units of type.
