Jump The Shark began in the late nineties as an online database chronicling the demise of once-great television shows. How great they were or were not is debatable, and that is the purpose of the site. Users can vote on which shows "jumped" and why. The term "jumping the shark" is based on an episode of Happy Days, in which the Fonz character literally jumps over (on waterskis) a shark. As the expression has made its way into the public vernacular, it seemed fitting to lampoon this idea in the logo. The shark jumps itself and, in the process, shakes things up; the show you once loved will never be the same.
